On Jun 22, TheaterMania reported that Tony Award leader Richard Adler upheld divided on a dusk of Thursday, Jun 21, during his home in Southampton, New York. He was 90.
Adler won Tony Awards for co-composing a song and lyrics to a Tony-winning musicals “The Pajama Game” and “Damn Yankees.” He was also Tony-nominated for his measure to “Kwamina.” Among his best famous songs are “You Gotta Have Heart,” “Hernando’s Hideaway,” “Whatever Lola Wants,” and “Steam Heat.”
He also served as a producer, and during a Kennedy and Johnson administrations, he constructed countless presidential entertainments, including a birthday jubilee for President Kennedy that featured Marilyn Monroe singing “Happy Birthday, Mr. President.”
Adler is a member of a Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, and among his other honors are an ASCAP-Richard Rodgers Award, a National Parks Service Honorary Ranger Award, and an titular doctorate from Wagner College.
